Jerri Carmo

Jerri Carmo began her professional career at the SJSU Research Foundation as a Grants and Contracts Analyst in 1985. Since then she has seen several promotions leading to her latest position as Interim Chief Operating Officer. Her duties include directing the Office of Sponsor programs as well as Enterprise Programs, Intellectual Property Management, and managing SJSU's federal advocacy efforts. Carmo provides administrative leadership for the Research Foundation's rapidly expanding research program, currently generating $65 million annually in federal, state, and private funding, with over 400 active research projects. Trained as a social scientist, her leadership, astute understanding of the research grant and contract industry, and her long-standing relationships with faculty and administrators on campus and throughout federal and state agencies, make Carmo a critical member of the Research Foundation's executive team. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Society of Research Administrators, the National Council of University Research Administrators, the Association of University Technology Managers, the Auxiliary Organizations Association and the Council on Governmental Relations. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of California, Berkeley.

Paul Harris joined the Research Foundation in October, 2000, with over 25 years of non-profit financial leadership experience, which includes serving as the Business Director for the Amon Carter Museum, Controller/CFO for the Manhattan School of Music, Assistant Controller for the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services, and Controller for Lee University. Harris has also served on the faculty of the University of Tennessee and McKenzie College, where he taught accounting. Responsible for the Research Foundation's financial infrastructure, Harris and his staff oversee all of the Research Foundation's accounting operations. His professional affiliations include the National Association of College and University Business Officers, and the Auxiliary Organizations Association. Harris holds a Master's Degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Lee University.


Cheree Susann Suarez, CCP

Cheree Susann Suarez joined the Research Foundation's Human Resource Department in September 2006 with over 15 years of private and public sector experience. Cheree Susann Suarez is a Certified Compensation Professional specializing in compensation management. She has a rich background in Human Resources, HRIS web-based applications and core IT system interfacings. Throughout her career, Cheree has developed web-based applications, been a pioneer and implementer of multiple process and improvement initiatives and has successfully managed corporate-wide compensation, IT and HRIS projects.

As the Research Foundation's Director of Human Resources, Suarez and her team of professionals oversee all Human Resource Operations which include: Benefits, Compensation, Staffing, Immigration, Compliance, Rewards and Recognition and Employee Relations.

Cheree's Human Resource expertise was developed at VeriSign Inc, Sun Microsystems, and Excel Circuits International. Her previous experiences include the Santa Clara County Department of Corrections, the District Attorney's Office, and Valley Transportation Authority. Her professional affiliations include American Management Association, World@Work, California State University Auxiliary Organization Association, Silicon Valley Compensation Association and Women of Color Action Network (WCAN). Cheree holds both a BA in Management and a MA in Leadership, from St. Mary's College of California.
