NSF Professional Science Masters (PSM) Program Teleconference and Workshop

In response to high demand and interest, the CSU Chancellor’s Office will be offering a teleconference on May 18th, 2009, and a half-day grant preparation workshop on June 5, 2009, focused on preparing CSU proposals for the National Science Foundation Professional Science Master’s (PSM) Program.

NSF has indicated that the program solicitation for the PSM program--$15 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Economic Stimulus Bill) will likely be released before early June 2009, with proposals due in September, and awards to campuses in October. Grants are expected to be for a 3-year period and to provide support for such purposes as program outreach, recruitment, and administration and for student scholarship/stipends.

Face-To-Face And Web-Based Workshop: Preparing PSM NSF Grant Proposals
The goal of the June 5, 2025 workshop is to provide the most pertinent and helpful information possible to campus PSM proposal writing teams, so that these teams are positioned to write highly competitive proposals. A second goal is for campus teams to move from proposal concept to proposal outline (or even first proposal draft) by the end of the workshop.

We anticipate that activities to support these workshop goals will include:

- Overview (repeat and amplification of the May 18th teleconference) and analysis of the NSF PSM solicitation; including provision of proposal and budget templates
-Panel discussions with individuals familiar with the NSF program, national PSM leaders, and CSU PSM leaders
-Intensive group work time associated with the NSF PSM grant opportunity
guidance on program evaluation, cost matching, and other general considerations

In addition to hosting participants at the Chancellor’s Office in the Wallace Room for the grant workshop, The Chancellor’s Office will use webcasting, teleconferencing, and website support to provide NSF PSM workshop participants with the best possible workshop experience.

Elluminate: The Chancellor’s Office will be setting up the June 5th meeting as an Elluminate-Live web conference, using the license agreements in place at the CSU Office of the Chancellor. There is no cost to using Elluminate, but each attendee will need to download Java WebStart 1.5.11+ or 1.6. For more information about Elluminate's capabilities and to pre-configure your computer with the required software please see the following link: http://www.elluminate.com/support/index.jsp

The Chancellor’s Office will be reserving a teleconference line for the conference, which will allow connections with participants who are calling in for specific parts of the day's program, such as the conversation with the panelists or program officers.
